This was one year back, when my friend asked me to check this sketch “What a coincidence bro!” by Rohan & Sumit. I laughed real hard and made a bunch of my friends watch it on multiple occasions. With people around me, I open Prime, go to Comicstaan, Season 2, Episode 5, I used to remember the time also back then. But I couldn’t share timed links on Prime nor all my friends had Prime Account.

So I screen recorded and tried to put the video on YouTube. I had no intentions of monetizing, it was only to share with my friends by making the video unlisted. The title I gave was “what a coincidence bro”, now during the time of upload, YouTube’s ContentID algorithm raised a flag saying, content owned by Amazon Prime LLC / Amazon LLC. Also I will not be able to make this video unlisted, it can only be tagged private. I was fine with that. I showed it to couple of friends and then over time forgot about it.

Suddenly after an year, last month I got a mail from YouTube that there is a comment on this video.

It had 15K views and it was made public. Since then I’ve been checking the video views & in a month the views increased to 47K!

Firstly, how did YouTube figure out it is Prime’s Content? Is all of Prime Content hosted on YouTube Servers for checking any unwanted distribution of their content? So, Is Prime paying YouTube for these services of protecting their content to be distributed ? In that case YouTube is at a great advantage of controlling the entertainment content.

Secondly, a private video was automatically marked public. Prime decided that this trailer content can be distributed now& will help get more subscribers for them. That copyright claim might have been waived off and automatically from private it might have been marked public.

Can people from this domain comment on this theory ?

“Youtube has all/some of Prime/Netflix Content hosted on their servers so they can run ContentID Video Matching Algorithms and getting paid for these services”

PS — I backlinked this post to the youtube video. So, I can get some traffic from there! Lol!
