I will be talking about the Gom Jabbar Scene from Denis Villeneuve’s movie Dune. In the director’s words this scene is about

“Paul Atreides, the hero of the book will go through test called Gom-Jabbar. It is a test designed to see, if his humanity will overcome his animal impusles”

Reverend Mother : Remove the hand from box and you will die

Paul Atreides : What is in the box ?

Reverend Mother : Pain

There is a poisonous needle next to his neck, if he moves out of pain, he will die. This is one way of controlling human mind to control pain. Fear of Death to control pain is one method. What other futuristic tech methods can we employ to train our mind ?

I am assuming in military training, you would be put through this multiple times to be comfortable with the situation. Long Exposure.

In a black mirror world, If I can simulate long situations in my mind, with NeuraLink kind of brain chips. One is made to live for 80 years in the simulation, the temperature slowly raises from 20deg Celsius to boiling point 100deg Celsius. Will it help one adapt and deal with that end state pain better? #froginboilingpan

On this note, post neura-link world (Read Matrix World & Facebook is Meta now :P) where we are free to live multiple lives quickly can help us become better beings. I’ll leave with this story on Westernised non-duality philosophy by the writer of Martian
